Kate Dodd

Academic Registrar

Profile

After a degree in Sociology with African and Asian Studies at Sussex I trained to be a careers adviser as a way of pursuing my interest in how education prepares people for the challenges of work. I have worked in higher education since 1989, including time at Coventry Polytechnic, Warick University and Birmingham University before joining York University in 2009.

My qualifications include a BA Hons in Sociology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Career Guidance, and MSc in Educational and Social Research Methods (Open University) and an MBA in Higher Education Management (University of London Institute of Education).

I have had positions on the executive boards of AGCAS and AMOSSHE, the student services organisation and was a member of the AUA Council. International and professional bodies I have been, or am now a member of, include FEDORA, NACE and NASPA.

Originally from South Africa, I went to an international school in Swaziland and moved to Europe in 1976 to evade apartheid. I am married with two grown up children.

Roles and responsibilities

As Academic Registrar I am the senior manager responsible for the work of the Academic Support Office, the Careers Service, Registry Services and Student Support Services.

Working closely with other senior academic and support managers, I lead projects that are designed to improve the experience of York students and to enhance the University’s reputation and performance. My role also includes providing advice and leadership in areas of student discipline and understanding of the regulations relating to learning and teaching and student life.
