Academic assessments
The University of York has established an international reputation
for the quality of its academic programmes and its research since our foundation
in 1963.
We have excelled in external assessments of quality:
- Ranked 8th for research in the 2011 Sunday Times University Guide and 9th for teaching excellence in The Guardian University Guide 2011.
- In the top ten nationally across all
dimensions of the 2010 National Student Survey (NSS) for seven subjects. Our students rated half the University’s subjects in the top ten in their
subject areas for teaching.
- In the top 10 for research in the most recent RAE results
- The University is 81st in the 2010-11 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, one of only 14 UK universities that make the top 100, and 88th in the 2010 QS World University Rankings. Only 11 UK universities appear in both world rankings.
The University's strengths in teaching, learning and research, combined with the attractions of the
City of York, offer a strong incentive to choose York - one of Britain's most
successful universities.
